Michael Ntagas – Artist Profile

My photographic work moves deliberately beyond the familiar. As a self‑taught artist, I have preserved the freedom not to follow rules, but to challenge perception. People, landscapes, travel and architecture do not serve as motifs in the classical sense, they become surfaces, structures, and moments in which something emerges that lies beyond mere representation.

I work with reduced forms, clear lines, and a conscious limitation of color. Not to direct the gaze, but to open it. What unfolds are images that cannot be viewed passively. They demand an attitude, a reaction, a moment of pause.

Technical perfection is not my goal but a tool. One I use as readily as I deliberately break it. Only within this tension does the artistic freedom arise that defines my style, photographs that do not decorate spaces, but shift perceptions.

Artistic Journey
At the age of 17, I purchased my first single-lens reflex camera and began exploring photography in depth. By studying specialized literature and attending seminars, I deepened my knowledge and developed my own unique style, one that transcends mere representation and elevates photography to an art form.

Equipment
Today, I work with a Nikon D810, Nikon Zfc, Nikon D2Xs, and a Mamiya RZ67 Pro, complemented by a wide range of interchangeable lenses that provide me with the creative freedom to capture any subject.
